Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
