Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
